Kempo Karate

Kempo is the name of several Japanese/Okinawan martial arts. The word kempo is a Japanese translation of the Chinese word “quan fa”. The generic nature of the term combined with its widespread, cross-cultural adoption in the martial arts community has led to many divergent definitions.

Some Okinawan martial arts use the term kempo as an alternate name for their systems of karate, or for a distinct but related art within their association. Goshinkan International Hombu Dojo is primarily a Shorin-ryu Kempo Karate school. However, in addition to Shorin-ryu, Goshinkan also practices “Hakutsuru Kempo” (White Crane Kempo), which is a related and distinctive style also taught by the association.
